First LNG supply station launched in China

From what has been declared by the China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC), the first LNG supply station for LNG vessels by tank truck has been launched in China’s Macun port in Hainan. The state-controlled company CNOOC declared that the station has a filling capacity of 25 thousand tons per year while its maximum filling capacity per hour is 54 cbm of LNG. Since March 2021, the station has been tested by supplying two LNG-fuelled ships, the Hai Yang Shi You 550 and the Hai Yang Shi You 551. Moreover, a division of CNOOC, China Oilfield Services (COSL), ordered 12 new LNG-fuelled ships which will be fuelled thanks to this station.

In line with the great expansion of the Chinese maritime LNG sector, we must mention the increase in the country’s LNG imports, which will make China the biggest importer of this fuel in the world in 2021.
