In December 2018, the German ship-owner company TT-Line signed the order for a new liquefied natural gas ferry with the Chinese CSC Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, Jiangsu, with the option to add a second vessel to the order.
The concept design for the new dual fuel RoPax ferry (nikenamed Green Ships) has contributions from Denmark’s OSK-ShipTech and its sister firm Steen Friis Design, both part of Danish marine consultants OSK Group.
The vessel 230-m long and 31-m wide, which is scheduled for delivery in 2022, will have capacity for 800 passengers and more than 200 semi-trailers and containers. The project is partially subsidized by Germany’s Federal Transport Ministry.
According to the chief executive of TT-Line Bernhard J Termuhlen “it will be the most environmentally friendly vessel in TT Line’s fleet”.
TT-Line is owned by Trampschifffahrt GmbH & Co, a holding company controlled in equal share by two private German and Sweden owners, operates between the port of Trelleborg in southern Sweden and the ports of Travemünde and Rostock in Germany and Świnoujście in Poland. Yearly, the company carries nearly 900,000 passengers and 180,000 cars.
