13 Nov 2018 - ConferenzaGNL
On Monday November 12th, the first Italian ferry to supply liquefied liquefied natural gas (dual fuel) arrived in Messina, as we learn from the local press. The ship, whose delivery ceremony will take place on 17 November, will be the new flagship of the Caronte & Tourist Group and will soon enter service on the Messina-Villa San Giovanni stretch and back.
The new unit of 8,055 gross tons, named “Elio” in honour to the co-founder of the company Elio Matacena, who died in 2012, is over 133 meters long and 22 meters wide and can accommodate up to 1,500 passengers and 290 vehicles on the two bridges.
The bidirectional ferry, designed by the Norwegian company LMG Marin AS and classified by RINA, was built at the Turkish Sefine Shipyard in Yalova; it uses 3 main Wartsila 6L34DF engines of 3,000 kW each and two Rolls Royce AZIPULL100 CP engines of 2,500 kW each, which will allow a cruising speed of 12.5 knots.[fsn_text] [/fsn_text]
