BioLNG, unity is strength: Iveco with Fercam and Transbozen in the Biogas Wipptal
14 Oct 2020 - ConferenzaGNL
The South Tyrolean transport and logistics company Fercam, the Transbozen transport company and the Iveco concessionaire for South Tyrol Gasser srl have signed a shareholding agreement in Biogas Wipptal, an energy company that is starting the production of bioLNG.
The works for the conversion of the current biogas plant in Val di Vizze, near Bolzano in Trentino-Alto Adige Region, foresee an investment of € 11 million and will be started by October, while the start of the production of BioLNG for transport is scheduled for April 2021. This is an investment total of € 24 million to neutralize the environmental and climate impact of LNG.
“Our company has been successfully operating for years with vehicles with LNG technology – said the CEO of Fercam Hannes Baumgartner – which have the advantage of eliminating particulate emissions and significantly lower CO² emissions compared to diesel engines. With the use of BioLNG, produced in the future by Biogas Wipptal, our goal is to be able to transport goods with an almost zero impact on the climate “.
The intent, according to Baumgartner, is to “actively contribute to the achievement of the ambitious environmental protection objectives established by the Paris Agreement in 2015, according to which the transport sector must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels ”.
The Biogas Wipptal based in Val di Vizze was established in 2008 by 62 members with the aim of producing fertilizers and biogas for electricity, reusing the livestock effluents from dairy cattle farms.
