SMET Spain Acquires Ten LNG-powered IVECO Stralis NP
21 May 2018 - ConferenzaGNL
European integrated logistics provider SMET’s Spanish division has acquired its first ten natural gas powered IVECO Stralis NP 400, thereby intensifying its support for sustainable transportation. SMET is no stranger to natural gas vehicles, having collaborated with IVECO to trial and subsequently purchase Iveco natural gas powered tractors in 2015 in Italy.
The delivery, which was made through Saipa Motor, official dealer of IVECO in Valencia, was attended by Alejandro Guerra, Country Manager of SMET Spain, Vicente Savall, manager of the concessionaire and Alberto Rodrigo, IVECO’s Area Manager.
The IVECO Stralis NP 400 is powered by an IVECO Cursor 9 engine of Euro VI 8.7 liters that develops a power of 400cv and a maximum torque of 1,700 Nm using liquefied natural gas (LNG). The Stralis NP is also the first natural gas truck with 12-speed automatic transmission, which guarantees lower fuel consumption and greater driving comfort. The higher capacity fuel tanks increase the autonomy with the LNG-only version, which reaches a record distance of 1,500 km.
The improvements introduced in the Stralis NP contribute to reduce the Total Cost of Exploitation by 3% compared to the previous model, whose fuel consumption was already 40% lower than its diesel equivalent.
The SMET group, which boasts 70 years of activity, owns 8 branches in Italy and 5 constantly expanding branches in Europe. Alejandro Guerra, Country Manager of SMET Spain, thus commented on the event “the environmental commitment of the group and the excellent consumption already demonstrated in the Italian fleet with Iveco Stralis NP, confirm the commitment of SMET towards its customers and in looking for market alternatives that provide innovation and greater effectiveness, have found the maximum benefits in IVECO Stralis “.
Currently in Spain there are 31 LNG refueling stations (in addition to 50 CNG-compressed natural gas supply points) open to the public, making it the European country with more stations for liquefied natural gas. Another 16 LNG stations (and 38 CNG stations) should be added during the course of this year.
